Wow, what a traveling year it's been! We just got back from New York Comic Con and our 10th/last con of the year. We had so much fun meeting everyone along the tour and we felt loved and supported in every city. THANK YOU for making the 2010 convention season one of the best times of our lives. Just because we're done with the convention season doesn't mean we're not creating more awesomeness for all the Krackleheads around the world so stay tuned for very cool stuff in the near future! We collaborated with our buddy and filmmaker Todd Downing to create a fun fan film showing what life is Logan as one of the most popular mutants around and at the same time, how much repetition the poor guy must go through pulled in to the same fights and same situations over and over again. This past weekend, we headed out to North Carolina to spread the gospel of nerd rock.

This was our first time in the south promoting E FOR EVERYONE and it was really cool to meet our friends down there we didn't know we had. It's always a trip and simultaneously extremely cool to hear enthusiasm for the music from folks who you would never otherwise never know existed. May that always be fun and somebody feel free to throat punch either of us should should we ever that for granted (not too hard).

Also, that weekend marked the first time KK had ever been invited to participate in a convention "panel". For those unfamiliar with the format, it's like a class put on by the artist/writer/actor ABOUT whatever said artist is involved in. In our case, we were invited to do whatever we wanted to do.

Dangerous I know, but we pulled something out that we thought would be both informative and fun and something that would make it new for us.

We decided to go with a "VH1 Storytellers" concept and jumped in head first for a full hour of stories, laughs, and hopefully more connection between the band, fans and our music. For example.... "On And On" is more than a song about Wolverine's overworked schedule, it's also a commentary of how we go through much of our lives jumping from one distraction to the next without ever really centering ourselves.

We were a little nervous taking what people may feel is only fun and light themed music and revealing it was about much more at the same time, but sticking with honestly as policy we were rewarded with fans saying they felt closer to the music and had enjoyed the peeling of layers. It feels different talking about the KK in that context, but at the same time more fulfilling and multi-dimensional. We were thankful to the fans who came and enjoyed their time, we're looking forward to doing it again!

While we were holding the front line in Charlotte, director Todd Downing was breaking ground beginning filming on our as-of-now no longer secret music video for "On And On". We're so excited for this and cannot wait for it to be completed after receiving emails with the first of the footage stills. Over the past 2 months, our friend JD Greene has become Logan and you're gonna smile when you see it. :)

C2E2!

We're back from C2E2 in Chicago and tomorrow of to Calgary Expo! The trip and show with Pop Coltour and Joe Quesada was awesome and hope those of you that were there had a blast. The following is a blog entry that Kyle put up on his site sharing some of what went down in the Windy City...

The weeks are blurring. The space time continuum is bending and shifting around me. Well, not really that dramatic, but I do feel I just got home as I now pack today to head out of Calgary for the 3rd and final convention this month on the Kirby Krackle convention train. We were in the Windy City over the weekend, flying in on Thursday with the band arriving on Friday for our Saturday night show at the official Chicago C2E2 convention after party. Here's a few highlights from the trip...

I've posted photos of our booth at the cons before, but you've never seen it with the devil picks on top have you?! No, I didn't think so and though we can't take credit for it, I appreciate the booth behind us for adding to our much needed street cred in the "evil rock" department. Thanks guys!

Being that it was my first time in Chicago, I was curious to see what little I could to the fullest being that I was trapped inside a convention hall all day. What I did see though was an older town that very much reminded me of NYC, without the hustle and bustle or artsy vibe. Every one seemed to be very much in their own space going about their business in a sort of "muted" way. It just felt different than any place I had been before; stark, gray, and not in the weather way of things like the NW. I was informed that "The Dark Knight" was filmed there and immediately that made sense to me. Felt like you'd think Gotham would feel like. Maybe I only think of those things though. I do read a lot of comics...

The costumes were AMAZING per usual and Chicago nerds really know how to put together some classy ensembles. As in many cities though, there are those outfits where you see a little too much more than you'd like but those are few and far between. And by that, I mean who doesn't love a skinny white guy dressed up like Slave Leia?

As I said earlier, the KK live band (Scott Andrew, Patrick Porter, Nelson Estes and Bryce Francis) arrived Friday night minus Bryce our keyboardist (he's in Japan). We met up with them in an old school diner (fully equipped with 70 year olds manning the door who looked like they could kick your ass) downtown where they ate covering their faces in the best steak grease chi-town had to offer. As drummer Nellie eloquently put, "I bet Al Capone kicked someone down those stairs". I'd believe it cause this place was old school with photos from the past 5 decades adorning the walls of stars complimenting the owner on his establishment. After their dinner we walked around downtown before calling it a night for the big day and concert on Saturday...

Saturday brought the longest selling/booth manning day of the convention per usual, and subsequently I cut out early to rest my voice before heading to soundcheck at 5:00 for our concert at REGGIE'S rock club (think a mix between the Showbox and Highdive in Seattle). The band sounded like they spent the whole day drinking beer and riding the brown train all around the city and Wrigleyville so it was nice to live vicariously through them and their stories. I always say this, but I may seriously need to start spending an extra day after the show to walk around and see some touristy stuff! Like I said, we sped over to sound check and THE FUGLEES (band that was headlining the night) were more than kind to let us use their gear they had driven over that afternoon from Indiana. They were great guys and we had an awesome time playing that night. As opposed to San Francisco, I became really excited during the few days prior to the show being about to say YES when folks asked if we were playing during the convention weekend. Again like at the Seattle convention in March, I could see people singing along (even when I hiccuped and sang the wrong words) and enjoyed every freaking minute of it. THAT (the folks singing along) is a new thing for me to experience and validation that KK is moving in the right direction of connecting with our fans in the right way I'd like to...it's such a cool feeling. Once again we were also joined by MARVEL Comics Editor-In-Chief Joe Quesada which was very cool for us and especially the fans. This music-meets-comics thing is starting to get recognized by the powers that be that run the events and that feels good. Art and music go together of course and there's always room for something new. I'm really looking forward to the day when there's 4 bands like us and we can all play together full circle style! That RED HULK guitar pick? MARVEL made them up for us as another promo for the company like the one they did in Seattle and simultaneously fulfilled a pre-teen fantasy for me once again...

I know I say this often, but one of the coolest things about going to these conventions is meeting fans of KK and putting faces to emails we've received or folks who stop by to say hi after having written articles about us online or in print. It's not a needing to hear praise thing, it's more about hearing how somebody has enjoyed a certain song because of comic they really like or how it made them want to get into a series because a song had made them curious. I love meeting young fans most of all because kids hold an unfiltered joy, and when they like something, they really like it. I can relate to kids in this way more than adults many times cause I'm the same way. This young Kracklehead left and impression and I was thankful to meet him. The classy gentleman in the middle of Jim and I? That's Malik Yusef, an artist on Kanye West's GOOD MUSIC label. Nice guy and we talked about some possible collaborative efforts. Um yes, that would be fun...

Finally, one of the coolest things I saw at C2E2 was this traveling auction of set pieces from the fist IRON MAN movie. Everything from crushed armor to burnt suits was up for auction and I was surprised they let me get that close to take pictures of it all. Enjoy!

ECCC Wrap-Up!

THANK YOU Seattle for the amazing, wonderful, loving response we received from all of you at this years ECCC! It was special for us not only because of the heartfelt response, but also because it was the 1st of our 10 conventions this year in support of our new album, E FOR EVERYONE!

We had so fun meeting the fans new and old, and hearing the excitement grow as the early listeners to our disc gave us some feedback on what they liked and wanted to hear more of. All accounted for and taken into consideration for song ideas so thanks for the free material yo! ;D

Besides the good face time with local Krackleheads, we had the amazing opportunity to play with friend and MARVEL Comics E-I-C Joe Quesada on stage for the first time. He even had special MARVEL embodied guitar picks made up for the performance and for a kids who grew up playing guitar in-between issues of "What If?!", we're still trying to wrap our brains around the coolness of that...

An accomplished musician and performer in his own right, Joe joined us for "One Of The Guys", "Secret Identity", "On And On", and "Tony Stark" to the delight of the crowd and for what Joe deemed on stage "The First KK / MARVEL Team-Up".

Issue #1?! We'll take it!

DUSTY CARTRIDGES & LONG BOXES

We wanted to write a song about a perfect night with that perfect someone, and maybe what might seem to be a perfect night to some of you as well. The delicately stripped down acoustic finger picked songs is the more basic track on E4E and something that might not be out of place on a John Denver album...if he wrote songs about making X-Babies. Aw yeah! A nerd fantasy (ours anyway) rolling right 2 minutes and 46 seconds of spending some sexy times bagging and boarding comics with your certain someone...

"There's not better place to be when you bag and board my comics you're always careful with the crease...CGC says 9.3 but you're a 10 to me..."

GOING HOME

"Going Home" is a song we were commissioned to do for the LONG BEACH COMIC CON back in October. We were asked to write something that we felt summarized the convention experience and what better way to gain a storyline than to take it from the 7 conventions we had already experienced throughout the year! That is, minus the whole waking up in the hotel room "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" style. Those aren't pillows!!!!!!

"We're Going Home! We're Going Home! To the place where wild nerds roam! With pretty girls and dudes in capes! Going to cons is our escape..."

GREAT LAKES AVENGERS

We had room for 2 more songs on E4E when we went to a Pearl Jam concert last October in Seattle and after soaking in the concert, we KNEW we wanted to bring the rock to round out the album. Sometimes you have inspiration strike you in the way you least expect it, but after that show we in no way wanted to perform concerts this year with out playing hard...and fast. This is the most manic sounding song on the album and good reason since it's from the perspective of a hero auditioning/getting rejected from every major team of heroes out there again and again. Despite the failed attempts to join the Green Lantern Corps, JLA, X-Men, etc...the hero in question is repeatedly approached by the GREAT LAKES AVENGERS; the most useless band of heroes ever assembled under the sun. Sometimes though, heart goes a long way...and free beer always helps too.

"I got a message from the GREAT LAKES AVENGERS, they offered me a membership but I did not accept cause they're a walking disaster...like a narwhal with a fireball they don't make sense at all..."

CAN I WATCH YOU?

Aw, the song that when we wrote it was debated over drool induced laughing on the floor and pounding on the side of the wall so the dog got freaked out.
We've come to realize that for better or for worse, there are some things that once thought of need to be created and fully realized. Are all these things appropriate to bring into this world? Not at all, and most we come up with actually should be repressed...like "Can I Watch You?"; a song that is from the perspective of MARVEL Comics character "The Watcher" the all knowing, all-seeing Celestial. But hey, just because you're 3 stories high with a big baby head and a wear a toga don't mean that you can't gets yours, right? RIGHT!? If Uatu is gonna sing a song to his boo, why shouldn't it be in the form of a 70's love jam over sexy ass guitar and a slutty solo? Slutty indeed. Oh Watcher, you crazy baby...you crazy.

"I never instigate, IKOR didn't raise no fool. You say I instigate, you think it's hot...Celestial bad boy from the blue side of the moon, you like the things I do, things I say I never do...but I still do...so call me UATU!"

That's a wrap, and the most damage we could do on disc #2! We hope you like our second offering and now is when the fun for us all starts! Shows! Concerts! Conventions! Con Sars and shaking hands with people that just sneezed on our cd players!

New Song "Take It From Me (Mega Man Song)" Now Streaming! Descriptions of 3 New Songs.

Check yourself Krackleheads! Why?! Cause this week we bring you another new song streaming now from E FOR EVERYONE! We're a band that writes about and from the perspective of comic book charaters/nerd culture. So keeping with the balance of the world in that the last song we debuted was about a comic book character, this week we show our love for fellow video game nerds with our song about MEGA MAN..."Take It From Me". As promised we'll also unveil a few more song descriptions from E4E so read on!

TAKE IT FROM ME

There are video games you grew up on, and then there are video games you were RAISED by. For us, that was the 8-bit parent we and 1.5 million other kids who loved it called MEGA MAN 2. For a long time we wanted to write a song about Mega Man but didn't know how we were gonna do it until we wrote the opening riff and had our Eureka moment. See, if we were born in the year 20XX and Dr. Light sent us across 8 levels to kick ass, this is kinda song we would hope to have running though our headphones hooked up to our blaster arm. Just sayin. With shredding solos provided by good friend Patrick Porter, we wanted to create an-in-your-face song worthy and confident of kicking robot ass...not matter what those bastards were made of...

"Born on a table in 20XX, open my eyes and I disconnect...look down to see the future glowing in my hand, an artificial man..."

RING CAPACITY

In July of last year, we released "Ring Capacity" as a way to reach new fans by offering the single as an email-list only exclusive. After the fan response and coverage we received from the track we knew it was a no-brainer to put it on E4E not only because of that, but we just love playing it! The song chronicles a moment in time from the perspective of Green Lantern Hal Jordan after he is attacked in space by Sinestro. The chorus was written by Kyle on a trip to Mexico after he obsessively delved into many GL back issues while trying to be eaten by scorpions (not the band).
When he returned we both sat down and RC came together in 20 minutes. Crazy. Wish it could always be that easy. Hint? ITS NOT.

"I'm flying through the cold of space, it seems I've yet to find my place...I'm guarding 2814, I don't know why it's chosen me..."

HENCHMAN

If you were a professional Henchman, would you have to go interview for a job with the super-villain you were "henching" for? Damn straight you would, and in this song we think we got a pretty accurate portrayal of how that might go. The narrator of "Henchman" is your everyday goon; a guy who is getting older and knows that his skill set though maybe limited to the rest of the world, is pretty bad ass. Fired lasers from a sub? CHECK. Spent a month up on the moon? DONE. In the henching world, your resume is all you have so you can be sure during the course of this song he sells himself to his potential future employer while at the same time letting it me known what his needs are including covered parking and 401K. Even when you're a little bit nuts and work on death ray machines, it's important to know that your family will be able to eat next week. This henchman has his priorities straight, even if his head is a little backwards...

"I'm curious what you pay and I could start today, have faith in what's inside like Cringer turning into Battle Cat...So here I am again and with this leaky pen I summarize my skill set, realize my path in life is set...I'll always be a henchman..."

Bonjour Krackleheads! Today over at www.kirbykracklemusic.com we now have E FOR EVERYONE available for pre-order for our March 9th release. If you pre-order now for $10 you'll be able to be one of the first to receive E4E the beginning of that week! Pass the word...

As we stated last week, we wanted to start unveiling the songs subject matter on the album today and let fans know what we concocted on this second helping of nerd rock. Obviously, you need to make sure that an album being described as full of comic book/video game homages isn't filled with laments of easy-bake oven malfunctions and Midget lust right? Sorry, dwarves. Here's the first course...

VAULT 101

We're obsessed with the game FALLOUT 3. It's obsessed with us. How do we know? Well it seemed for days, and weeks, and months in a row whenever we had down time after traveling to conventions and writing/recording it called to us like the ring of Sauron. Most of the time it made us turn the lights down low, the volume up high, and open a Victory Brewing Company "Storm King Stout" to devour while blasting mutants with our mighty shotgun. Yep, that game tastes like that beer till the day we die. Anyone relate? It was a no-brainer that we needed to write a song professing our love for the hours of enjoyment the game has given us and we did just that. In fact, it was the first song written of the new batch and we love it. The chorus speaks of "In a world gone mad I gotta believe, I gotta believe it's getting better" relating to the experience of leaving the safety of Vault 101 in the game, and also relating to how we choos,e to deal with stress in this life. Hope and belief reign above all in the human spirit and for a game and song whose lyrics have Raiders, an atom bomb, and a hard working Pip-Boy scattered throughout, we find it's no exception.

ON AND ON

SECRET IDENTITY

Ok, hands raised for who DOESN'T want to be a super hero?! Yeah we thought so, and guy in the back with the hand up put it down cause the Old Spice ain't working. Now that that's done, SECRET IDENTITY is a weezer-esque light-hearted but heavy in spirit declaration from a guy who's more than any of us working for the weekend. Why? Well, when he's done buying tile at Target and after tucking his kids into bed he's a vigilante jumping rooftops and trying not to die in the process. Inspired by The Incredibles, Millar's "Kick Ass", and our own overwhelming urge to roam the streets delivering the KK brand of justice; SECRET IDENTITY hopes to speak to the inner crime fighter in all of us. Worth getting shot and the embarrassment of having your friends bail you out in a bright yellow costume? TOTALLY.

"Secret Identity, and nobody knows but me...patrolling the city streets...my ears to the ground..."

ROLL OVER

Started and mapped out to the surrounding passengers dismay on a the tarmac leaving Fan Expo in Toronto last year, ROLL OVER is the sister song to last year's "Marvelous Girls". First we gotta back up a bit...
A few years ago, there was a period of about six months where many of the big rap hits on the charts had something to do with a nursery rhyme as the hook in the chorus (A la Jay-Z's "Hardknock Life"). During this time of public domain inspired catchy hookery, Kyle swore up and down that someone soon would do a song using the childrens song "Roll Over" and instead of the lyric being "10 in the bed and the little one said "Roll Over! Roll Over!"...", it would be "10 in the bed and the Asian one said..." or "10 in the bed and they white girl said...", and etc. The play on the famous nursery rhyme seemed an obvious declaration of a rap artist's always important to describe sexual-prowess and he was shocked when no one snatched the idea up that seemed to hang so freely in the ether. Fast forward to last summer 2009 when we started writing E4E and the idea came up again only this time we instead of "white girls/asian girls" we were inspired to write about "Fraggle girls/Thudercat girls/Amazon girls". Also, no pressure was felt of convincing others of our sexual prowess, mostly cause we're horrible. Not impressive. Basically, the Cuckoo girls gave us six-thumbs down.
The song layered with 808's and Dr. Dre-esque production hopes to leave you with the feeling that you've just spent the night with 10 cartoon girls at the bar at the end of the world. The song also marks the first time we've ever had a rap artist spit 12-bars on tape for us before. We turned to GMK THE GREAT our boy L.A. who was kind enough to take time out of his schedule and let us fly him up to lay down one of the sickest odes to cartoon girls we've ever heard. Yes, we've memorized the rap. No, you don't want to hear us do it...

"Final call came, there were shots all around with the Gummi Bear juice and the Getafix potion...feeling all right we broke into the night, Dagger had an in on transportation..."

On Sunday March 14th at 2:00pm, we'll be performing at EMERALD CITY COMIC con for the E For Everyone official CD Release show. Today, we're very happy to announce that as a special guest at ECCC this year, Marvel Comics Editor-In-Chief and friend Joe Quesada will be joining KK on stage LIVE on guitar blasting through songs with us from our new and previous album! We're psyched, he's psyched, and we're excited to see what happens when the worlds of Marvel and nerd-rock meet in a swirling mess of distortion and 3-part harmonies. It will be epic to say the least...see you there!

E FOR EVERYONE Single Debut..."On And On"!

Good day Krackleheads! As promised last week, today we debut the color final cover from E FOR EVERYONE made to represent the spectrum by Justin Stewart on top of Jim Mahfood inks! We think it represents the album's energy, and please note the Green Lantern ring generated guitar Kyle is holding. Yeah, we really have one now. No, you can't borrow it!

The main reason we're posting today though is to announce our brand-spankin' new never heard before (except by our moms) single from E4E titled, "On and On"!

The song is a day-in-the-life of WOLVERINE, one of our favorite comics/characters of all time. We think a few of you like him too! We chose the song as the first to debut cause we feel it really represents E4E's vibe and since last summer when it was written have always felt super excited to share it with our fans. We love putting our take on what we feel may be a mindset of the characters we love and this song was no exception being the busy schedule that Wolvie keeps and how it may affect him in ways not previously thought. We hope you think it rocks as much as we do and make sure you turn it up in your cubicle, dorm room, or jail cell! If you feel like making claws out of foil today after listening we don't blame you. We got ours taken away in the studio though...

Finally, E4E has a release date! The second offering from KK will be released via our site on Tuesday, March 9th marking our 2010 covention debut that next weekend in Seattle at the EMERALD CITY COMIC CON (March 13th-14th). You'll be able to start pre-ordering the record via our site next week as well on Tuesday, February 23rd. That way, you'll be one of the first to receive it in the mail the week of the release.

Next week, we'll start debuting song titles and descriptions every week until the album drops on March 9th to get you in the know regarding what we've cooked up on this second KK helping! KIRBY KRACKLE Month Starts Now!

Greetings Krackleheads!

A month ago we posted that we were entering the studio to record our sophomore album, E FOR EVERYONE. We posted videos and pictures documenting the whole process with the hopes that fans of our music would feel a part of the making of the album because it was made for you, us, and everyone that loves comic/video game culture.

Well....IT'S DONE SON! Whoo hoo!

Yep, last week we dropped it off at the printers and then ate ourselves silly with an onslaught of BBQ and beer before noon. Classy! So what does that mean?

It means KIRBY KRACKLE month starts now!

This week we're debuting the black & white album art for E FOR EVERYONE and it was done by the visual badassery that is Jim Mahfood, the artist who did our debut album. We loved his work so much last time we requested his talents again and here it is! Next week we'll debut the full color version...

Next week be sure to check back as we post the first single from E on Tuesday February 16th. We'll also talk about all of the new songs in the following weeks ramping up to the soon to be announced March release date and how to pre-order!

Finally, we can start sharing what we've been keeping in the oven and can't wait for the labor pains! Can you?

Let's Make A New Album Krackleheads!!!

What's up Krackleheads?!

It's been few months since we updated our blog which is inexcusable, but also maybe (maybe) understandable when you hear what we've been doing...

For the past 3 months, we have been hard at work in Kyle's ORANGE ROOM studios crafting the best follow-up to this year's self-titled album that we could make. We started with 20 songs, but only 11 made the writing cut to make up what will be the most rocking KK set of songs to date. This past year our debut album has taken us to many places from Calgary to New York, Toronto to Long Beach, and we've had amazing adventures along the way! More amazing that the travels have been meeting all of our fans from literally all over the world who have come up to us to say hi at the cons and concerts, and has been extremely humbling as something we never expected to come from this. Our goal from the start has been to make a band and albums that WE would like to listen to and freak out about, and we're so glad many of you do as well. YOU RULE THE HOUSE!

Though it's been a blast and play time to the extreme, we've had our heads down for months now crafting what we feel will the best follow-up we could make for fans of comics, fans of video games, fans of KK, and for us. Next week we'll be heading into the studio for an intense week and a half recording session filled with big guitars, thundering toms, and melt your face solos...won't you join us? :)

Kirby Krackle flew into the Long Beach airport last Friday morning fueled on a mix of cinnamon pretzels, hopes, and dreams. After checking into the hotel (which was surprisingly swanky), we made our way to set up the KK booth for the few hours the show was open that late afternoon. It's always nice catch up with the familiar faces in other artists, writers, and hardcore fan goers we've seen again and again all around North America. It's like a traveling circus where you realize you've seen these people in more cities that you've traveled to with your family or closest friends. Everyone has a mutual respect cause everyone is there for the same thing...they love comics...and selling stuff. Let's be honest here. :)

Late that night, Neslon, Bryce, and Scott (the KK live backing band) flew in and we all caught some food before catching the big day ahead and the concert we were planned to rock that next evening.

We sold albums, shirts, and chatted with awesome fans both new (including Conan O'Brein show regular Pierre Bernard) and old all day. The guys drank beers by the pool, took naps, and relaxed. Is there a problem with this picture? We're glad it was a vacation for them, and think it's safe to say we were all excited to be rocking that night in a foreign city.

The concert was great, we had a lot of fans there who knew the songs inside and out, and even had an opening band that dressed up in full sasquatch regalia. "The Abominable Frontman, "Bass-quatch", and "Sascrotch" were monikers the members went by...Harry never did play solos quite as good.

The vibe on the last day (Sunday) felt like the last day of Senior year...not absent, but knowing the end of an era (touring under the debut album) was here. This disc took us to cities we've never seen, met friends and made lasting relationships that we have taken home with us and with this show being no exception met cool people and had great times. There's something really great that happens when you have a bunch of people come together around positive art, music, and stories.

That's what it's all about, right?

Toronto. Home of the Blue Jays, Our Lady Peace (one of my favorite bands), and seemingly hordes of girls that like to dress up in raccoon ears.

We took the KK caravan of tricks to "The Queen City" for 3 days of hustle and our second appearance at a Canadian show. We had our best single selling day ever on Saturday, and ran out of albums on Sunday with 6 hours left in the show. That was a first both cool and annoying, but that way we got to walk around for once and check all the great goods and art. Felt good to get the juices back after a lackluster showing at San Diego and once again saw how Canadians get their "beyond nice" rep. It was great to catch up with the NYC Marvel gang again on Saturday night, see artist friends Laurie B. and Kandrix, plus Jim Zubkavich who went above and beyond in letting us crash at his place, plus we enjoyed some fine local micro-brews. Also, we saw Spock! Looking good Leonard...

You never know who will be in the booth next to you at these conventions, but we were entertained all weekend by the ladies from UTERUS PARADE. Yes, you read that right. They create cute home crafted mini-comics about their adventures both real and made up, and sew crazy octopus plushy things with evil eyes. Awesome.

We cornered the film crew from CTV; the local news program that was doing a piece on the show and Jim did a great interview that was aired that night. All weekend we had folks come up to us after having seen the spot and it was a lot of fun. You can follow the link below and we are featured at the 16:20 mark.

Only one more convention left of the year and it's gonna go off with a bang! For the weekend of October 3rd-5th the Long Beach Comic Con is flying the full band down for a big rock show benefiting the HERO INITIATIVE, a charity that helps out retired comic creative types needing funds for medical services among other things. It's gonna feel really good to be involved with it and we're really excited for a big rock California adventure.

Sorry for the late post, post-SDCC has been hectic so here's the breakdown. First, a couple of crazy pictures from the show floor and of our table:

It was 5 days of awesome - selling cd's, interacting with our fans, and meeting tons of new ones who thankfully made the effort to come by and tell us how much they liked the album after buying it online! We saw some con goers turned fans from San Fransisco from February who actually brought us gifts, some folks who have been graciously spreading the word in Canada for the past few months, and even a fan named Mario who came all the way from Mexico City to say hi to one of his favorite bands. WOW. All the fans who came by who enjoy KK and share that enthusiasm with us are so fun and amazing that we try to cherish every moment while we're there. It's a great feeling!

As you know from following us on Twitter (you do follow @kirbykrackle, right?), we love using it. We did some next level stuff and did daily Twitter contests. Each day we would post a first-come first-serve contest on our page when the show floor opened offering the winner their choice of a free shirt or album once the task was completed. One day, it was to sing the Mario Brothers theme song at the top of your lungs, and the other was to sing "Naked Wii" while slow dancing with Jim like in the video below. Katie and her boyfriend Aaron were great to meet and were good sports letting us film it to post online (Part of the deal)! It was so fun, and to the few people who accused us of maliciously abusing our fans via the contest? TOTALLY.

As always, cons have tons of great costumers, here's some of our faves:

San Diego Comic Con or Bust! / "Ring Capacity" Live Video!

Hey Krackleheads, we're packing the bags for this week's trip to San Diego for our Comic Con debut! We're psyched, and especially thankful that we were able to join up on a existing bill on July 25th for a KK Comic Con acoustic set with Kyle. He'll be playing stripped down versions of the songs and telling some fun stories of how they came to be that Saturday night at THE RUBY ROOM in San Diego.

ZOMBIE WALK 2009!

Wow, what a kick ass week! Between dropping our new email list only single, "Ring Capacity" and playing the Fremont ZOMBIE WALK 2009 event we're spent on adrenaline and geekiness through and through! Who are we kidding? We can never get enough, and it sounds like you guys feel the same way about our new song and it's rockin' ode to GREEN LANTERN. The response to "Ring Capacity" exceeded our expectations and we hope you enjoy it as a "thank you" for being great fans and spreading the word about KK. The following below is an excerpt from Kyle's blog and his experience at ZOMBIE WALK 2009. Check it out and wallow in envy if you weren't there...but make sure you wear boots. Wallowing is messy...

"Last week I had mentioned I would be participating in the 2009 ZOMIBIE WALK after Kirby Krackle was invited to play due to the closing song on our debut album entitled, "Zombie Apocalypse"; a social commentary on what it would be like after the undead fallout and delivered via ukulele.

Makes sense right?

With Jim busy with out of town guests, Mandi accompanied me as my infected assistant down to Fremont and for what turned out to be one of the more surreal experiences of my yet to be played out life....

In the weeks prior to the event I was told that the organizers (Fremont Outdoor Cinema) had expected about 2500 for the event and that they were hoping to to break the Guinness record for biggest Zombie Walk, AND largest "Thriller Dance" which came about as a tribute to the now late Michael Jackson. When M and I showed up the line was a couple hundred people long and an hour later after sound check we walked by the line again to see it was now at least over a thousand.

Having some time to kill before we wanted to see the first leg of the walk (about 5 total), we set up at a local outdoor seating restaurant and chuckled at the "Zombie Plate" now listed on the daily menu. It was getting to be obvious everyone was getting in on the fun and a great mood was in the air. As it got closer to walk time (7:30-ish) you could see zombies arriving en masse and seemed to be from all walks of life. There were families of zombies, dwarf zombies (yes that's the PC term so lay off), zombies in wheel chairs, almost nude zombies and the below pictured "Ronald McDonald" zombie. Disturbing and a destroyer of my childhood...thank you, sir.

As with any socially conscious movement, there were the zombie organizers. Standing on raised up tables and preaching to a sea of what was seemingly now thousands of undead infected, the chants of "What do We Want?!" were followed with the perfect rouse of "BRAINS!!!". My favorite chant of the night? The unifying battle cry of, "Zombies Are People Too!"...

Once the 1st leg of the walk started, there is really nothing I can tell you that you can't determined from the video below. I almost wish I didn't know about the walk so I could be one of the hundreds of Fremont citizens that stood wide-eyed with bewildered smiles maybe partially wondering if running would be the better action of choice instead of the omnipresent look of folks taking cell-phone pics. The most priceless thing I saw was hundreds of zombies walking by the "Nectar" club which has a huge iron fence and all lunge towards it with arms sticking through grasping at the patrons inside. From the other perspective it would seem almost too real. So cool!

After the walk the massive horde (reported to be now 4500+) shuffled their way back to HQ to try to break the THRILLER dance record. I'm not sure if it's been reported if they did yet, but I don't know how they couldn't with the sea of inhumanity in the picture below. You be the judge, and I hope it turns out they did.

After doing the dance 3 times (too much) it was my turn to play. I was originally told I had 4 songs to play but as they were way behind schedule I was told the set had been cut back to two. I chose "Naked Wii" and the before mentioned "Zombie Apocalype", which was why we were invited in the first place. I had fun, but barely had a chance to get the crowd primed as I was competing with the massive crowd noise and gathering of folks getting ready to watch SHAUN OF THE DEAD after my performance. I was pretty burnt by that point and didn't stay for the movie, but it was a great time, appreciated the professionalism of the organizers and I think everyone had an awesome night playing rotting make-believe.

Also, make sure you notice the love from Super-fan Irene. You can't buy that kinda loyalty (I've tried) and she made my night just with that. :)"

We're cranking up the machine in anticipation of making it our most fun/successful con yet with some really fun stuff in the works that we think you're gonna love. What kinda stuff exactly?

How about a Summer single? :)

Though the album came out just 6 months ago, we've been getting a lot of emails/requests for more music. It feels great to hear that people want more KK, and we've been saying in podcasts and online interviews that the plan is to have a new album out at the beginning of the year and the start of the 2010 convention season. A month ago we were in the studio throwing around new song ideas to see what stuck to the wall (noodles not done yet) and one really rang as something we wanted to put out right away. It couldn't wait till January!

So, we thought it would be really cool as a thank you to the fans (that's KRACKLEHEADS to you) to release a summer single...and give it away for free! The single that's not to be named (yet) drops on TUESDAY, JUNE 30TH and the only way to get it is to sign up on our email list via www.kirbykracklemusic.com!

In other news, we had a blast at the few Seattle shows we played in Seattle in May and they gave us an opportunity to try to covert non-comic music fans outside of the con circuit to the notion of geek rock. Many people came up to us and said though they didn't know anything about comics/video games...they were down! That was great to experience and leads us to our wanting to do more shows on the road with the following in mind...

KK Rocks Seattle This Week With 2 Shows!

Let's Play Catch Up Shall We?

Hey KRACKLEHEADS!

Wow, a lot of time has passed since we updated the blog before we went to NYC. Hmmmm...let's see. We went back to New York to play a few shows and to meet with some Marvel folks about some cool stuff coming down the pipe in KK land and can't wait till we can share what we're talking about! Kyle came down with Strep Throat and a 103 degree temp 4 days before the trip. We almost scrapped the whole thing but ended up braving it and went anyways. Kyle sang the first show at Jim Hanley's Comic Universe and the next morning after singing on already strained and destroyed swollen vox cords due to the Strep had to lip sync the next night...cause he could barely talk. That was a first, and hopefully last time for that but the folks at COMIC BOOK JONES made us feel like conquering heroes with a fully catered night and great energy that makes us spread the word about the store anytime we talk with folks in the comic world.

After the NYC trip weekend, we had a couple of days off to rest and get Kyle's voice back before heading off to the CALGARY EXPO for a few days with our neighbors to the north and an excellent convention weekend. After the expo we headed up on a bus to Banff for a few days with fellow artists that included Ron Marz, Mark Brooks and Mike Choi (X-Men) and Gears of War 2 writer Josh Ortega. We had a blast and now we're home resting after our crazy month of conventions and trips!

Next up is a few shows in the Seattle area after many requests at the Emerald City Comic Con for some local shows ASAP! We'll be playing both shows full-band with the first being at the University Street Fair in Seattle on Sunday May 17th for an outdoor slot at 10:30am. There's no ticket fee, so come one come all and let's show them how geeks rock out! A few nights later we'll be at TOST in Seattle's Fremont area on the 19th for a 10:00pm show that marks the first club gig for KK.

The shows are gonna be a total blast and we hope to see you all there!

Emerald City Recap! Show Announcements! New Videos....and the winner of the "Name Yourselves" contest!

Whoa! So much to talk about! First off, THANK YOU Seattle fans for making ECCC the best con for KK and the most fun we've had in a while! Having had great out of town con trips promoting the new debut album we had hoped that the Seattle fans would come out and say hello and you did...so thanks so much. :)

We've posted a new video (and will post more) from the show as it made the debut of the KK live band. KK is Kyle and Jim, but it takes more than the two of us to make the full KK sound and that's where Kyle's solo bandmates stepped up and have become the touring band. Nelson Estes pounded the drums during "One Of The Guys" and Kent Harris kept the low-end locked down in "Villain Song" to a warm and excited crowd on Sunday afternoon! It was great to see everyone come out and support or first full local show, and speaking of shows we just posted many new appearances for KK in your area!

On April 17th we return to NYC to perform at JIM HANDLEY'S COMIC UNIVERSE and on Saturday the 18th we rock at COMIC BOOK JONES on Staten Island. We're really excited to make the flight back to the east coast to play for our fans and we hope to see you at the shows!

As for local shows, we'll be playing at Seattle's UNIVERSITY STREET FAIR on May 17th. Playing outside will never have been so geeky, and a few nights later at TOST in the Fremont area on the 19th! Both full band, both Superhero Rock Good Times!

As for the "Name Yourselves!" contest, we know we've been a week overdue for the announcement (ECCC kicked our butts) but no more excuses cause we have a winner!

Hey! First off, the deadline has come and gone for the "Name Yourselves!" contest that was running up until last week. Who's the winner? Well, given that we love being annoying we can't tell you until next week! We know, we know...but the lucky winner gets a signed CD and poster of the band so like we said, we'll announce next week. We cool? Great!

On to this weekend! And what is that you ask? Well...EMERALD CITY COMIC CON!

That's right, this week we'll be tearing open the albums and prepping the listening stations for our first convention appearance on our home turf. The time is right, the moon is aligned, and KK will be marking the show with it's first "Full Band" appearance on Sunday at the con in panel room #400 at the ripe time of 12:30pm! The amps will roar, the bass will thud and it will be first time anyone will have their ears ringing due to a song about "Genoshan Girls". A moment of silence for the 16 million dead please....

We're psyched beyond belief to meet our hometown fans and ECCC will also mark the first time we are offering KK shirts! Want to show your love of KK outside of shoving earphones on stranger's heads on the sidewalk? Now you can with the brand new design based off of JIM MAHFOOD's "KK signal light" on the back of our album. They're looking good and more importantly...you're going to be looking good. To take it further, it's "look good than feel good". Thanks Hans and Franz.

WonderCon Wrap-Up!

First of all, let us say that it is commonly known throughout the land that the only way you can get away with a picture like the one below is if you are in a "comic-book rock band". It's as if if you don't have a picture like that...then something is wrong with you. ;)

We had a freaking blast at WonderCon! Taking what we learned worked (and didn't work) at NYCC, we had a better idea heading into the weekend and what it would take to learn the masses about "The World's First Comic Book Rock Band".

Specifically, we had 2 listening stations this time instead of one and answered many times questions about the hygienic state of our headphones. Kyle's mom was a house cleaner so you all do the math on that one. Yes they're clean! NO, you won't get earwhigs!

All the podcasts and blogs highlighting KK that have been released since NYCC also really helped a lot as many folks came up and knew who we were without our introduction. ROCK! Having hundreds of folks listening to your album right in front of you everyday gives you a little better idea of what folks like...and even after that there is really no rule! You think you know, but then an 85 year old woman decides to buy 3 albums based off of listening to "Zombie Apocalypse"....WHA?!?
In NYC, the popular songs were "One Of The Guys" and "Marvelous Girls". In San Francisco, "Up, Up, Down, Down" proved to be the winner and as usual the ladies love "Naked Wii". It will never cease being creepy asking a cute girl if they want to hear a song about "playing Wii naked". We learned that we need to enunciate a little better though as more than a few times the words were relayed to us as sounding "play weed naked". Oh man...

When we weren't living at the con we were meeting fun people and once again hanging with TOP COW man Filip Sablik and a new friend in the form of "THE DARKNESS" artist Michael Broussard. We all went out to a restaurant one night called "The Stinking Rose" which left us smelling like roses...if roses were garlic.

Later that night we met up for a Tiki Bar tour with the iFanboy guys and hung out with THE BOYS artist Darick Robertson, a great guy.

Most of the other nights were spent with good friends Kandrix and Laurie B. As mentioned in earlier posts, Laurie B. is an amazing artist that specializes in "pin-up" versions of your favorite heroes. Be careful when approaching her table as you might get a little flustered and potentially fall in love with her uber-sexy Zantanna and "Slave-Leia" depictions.

On the final night, we spent the evening palling around with the DC comics crew and made the mandatory stop at IN-AND-OUT burger as well as stopping in Mel's Diner for pie...for the 4TH NIGHT IN A ROW. Yeah, we love our late night sweets. Time to start working out again.

On the final day we saw that having friends in unique positions rules as we received backstage tours of both ILM and PIXAR. So cool to be in the hub of such adventurous creativity and to spend a day actually taking a look at San Francisco outside of our route to the con everyday. That's work though, right?

Our next stop will be EMERALD CITY COMIC CON, and we can't wait to share the cool news with what we have planned for that!

WONDERCON!

Hey KK fans, we decided it was time to put down our comics and guitars and start packing for WONDERCON this weekend in San Francisco!

WONDERCON will be our second con appearance and our first on the West Coast...WESTSIDE!!!

We'll be setting up shop and selling our self-titled debut for all 3 days of the con...2/27-3/1 so please come by and introduce yourself! :)

So, we've been emails from fans asking what they should call themselves as newly crowned fans of KK. That's normal, cause as you know even dogs need to know where they fit in the pack. Not calling anyone a dog...but...ok.

That said...IT'S CONTEST TIME!!!!

Booyah, that's right. This is a kind of "name yourselves" contest as we're putting the future of KK fans in the hands of, well...FANS! Are you called "Kirbys"? Are you called "Krackles"? Are you called "Krackheads"?!? That's Kyle's favorite, but he's not making the decisions...YOU are!

Winner gets a signed album and signed 11X17 poster from the band to hang in your office, above the fireplace, jail cell, etc...

Deadline for this event is gonna be MARCH 11th with the winner selected and announced the following week so get those ideas rolling. We're currently getting our merchandise up and going as well so who knows? Your idea could make it on a T-Shirt, Freeway tag...the options are really endless. :)

Hey KK Fans! Besides being a band that writes songs about dating crazy girls found wandering your local comic shops, you gotta know we're fans first. That said, besides writing about our con appearances and shows we're gonna write about the stuff we love just as much...and that's comics and games.

We're big Garth Ennis fans and especially his run on the PUNISHER: MAX series over the past 4 or so years. Just when we thought we couldn't be hit with anything else that Ennis could write that would make us ashamed to tell our Grandmas he goes and releases CROSSED. Honestly, we couldn't even tell you what this book is about. We do know however that this is the closest thing to hell that we've seen in a while and at the same time leaves us hungry for more. It would be Un-American to say anything spoiler-esque about this book when it needs to be discovered by the individual reader straight up, but we will say that we're never gonna become Kindergarten teachers. It's a dangerous profession in ways we never knew. Well, mostly we won't cause we have problems speaking English...and it's not our 2nd language. Damn.

New York Comic Con Recap! Album Out Now!

Hey KK Fans! It's been a week since we returned from NYC and the New York COMIC-CON!

NYCC was the convention circuit and industry debut for KK after we had our CD Release in Seattle where Kyle performed the album's full-band arrangements in a stripped down acoustic setting at the shop Jim co-owns, THE COMIC STOP.

In a nutshell, the con was a blast and NYCC greeted us with open arms. We had the opportunity to stop by MARVEL and unload a backpack's worth of albums to in-house artists, writers, and staff including Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada. He had gotten a hold of some advance MP3's before the album was fully complete and loved what he heard so we were more than happy to take him the final product. Kind enough to help out a band from Seattle who writes about his company's characters, Quesada pimped KK that afternoon on his TWITTER blog which resulted in many con-goers approaching us that weekend excited to pick up the album.
